Feedmill Operator

Full Time - Hourly

Float Shift, 10am  to 6pm, Monday - Friday

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  The base hiring pay range for this role is between $16.25 - $22.75 per hour, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.

Purpose of Position

Safely and efficiently operate Feed Mill equipment to receive ingredients and to manufacture quality feed to Company specifications in a timely manner. Help fellow employees with safety, productivity, housekeeping, and fixing small mechanical issues that arise.

Working Conditions

Operate batching, grinding, mixing, crumbling and pelleting machinery, maintain proper amps, temp, oil levels, and quality. Be able to climb ladders and up to bin tops.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Operate all computer equipment, graphics and automation within main control area.

  • Operate WEM automation control system on full time basis to batch and pellet all feed

  • Be proficient in receiving and / or batching operations

  • Train co-workers and new employees

  • Be familiar with production scheduling and receiving

  • Maintain quality of feed made and loaded out 

  • Take physical inventory of feed and ingredients

  • Develop a working knowledge of equipment operated

  • Able to troubleshoot/diagnose/resolve basic maintenance issues

  • Perform warehousing as needed or directed

  • Perform housekeeping to ensure clean and safe plant operation

  • Physically demanding at times: shoveling, handling 55 lb. bags, hot/cold and dusty environment

  • Occasionally use forklift to unload pallets of feed ingredients from van trailers

  • Basic math skills

  • Be able to read, write and communicate in the English Language

  • Mostly independent, requiring very little supervision

  • Other tasks assigned by the supervisor

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Previous pelleting experience
