Lab Technician – Manufacturing Quality & Materials Testing
P&T Products, part of Pavement Maintenance Group, is seeking a dependable, hands-on Lab Technician to support production quality and product development at our Sandusky manufacturing facility. This full-time, non-exempt role works under the direction of the Lead Chemist and is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, follows procedures carefully, and can manage several testing priorities at once.
What You Will Do
- Collect, prepare, heat, pour, condition, and test raw materials, production samples, and finished products.
- Perform standardized physical tests such as penetration, resiliency, softening point, bend, bond, viscosity, tensile adhesion, ductility, flow, impact, settlement, moisture, and aggregate testing.
- Assist with lab-scale R&D batches and testing of experimental formulations.
- Record results accurately in laboratory logs, charts, spreadsheets, and inventory systems.
- Recognize unusual results or material behavior and promptly communicate concerns.
- Follow SOPs, test methods, safety requirements, and quality procedures.
- Support calibration checks, equipment upkeep, housekeeping, and laboratory organization.
- Work closely with laboratory, production, and plant team members to meet daily deadlines.
What We Are Looking For
- Testing, quality control, laboratory, production, or manufacturing experience is preferred, but we will train a hardworking candidate who is eager to learn.
- Ability to follow written procedures and perform repetitive testing consistently and accurately.
- Strong record-keeping, basic computer, spreadsheet, and data-entry skills.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, manage stress, and adjust to changing production priorities.
- Dependable attendance, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a team-first attitude.
- Willingness to ask questions, accept coaching, and take ownership of assigned work.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on position in a manufacturing laboratory with regular exposure to production areas, heated and sticky materials, strong odors, fumes, noise, chemicals, and changing temperatures. Required PPE must be worn. Candidates must be able to stand for extended periods, bend, reach, use testing tools and instruments, and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
