Job DetailsJob Location: PERRIS, CA 92570Salary Range: $20.00 - $25.00 HourlyJOB DESCRIPTION TITLE:                                   Shipping Loader / Checker 1                    REPORTS TO:                     Shipping Supervisor            DEPARTMENT:                  Shipping  FLSA Status:                    Non-Exempt    X    Exempt            COST CENTER:                  6711    SUMMARY Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. Is responsible for maintaining an inventory of products in the warehouse and outside pipe storage yard.  Moves product around and loads and unloads trucks using a forklift. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Works at following and promoting company safety rules and policies and following accepted safe work practices. Safely operates forklifts to move pipe and materials to and from the production areas, pad, scales, and warehouse and to load and unload trucks. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming or outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determine the most cost-effective method of transportation. Affix shipping labels or stencil shipping information on cartons and containers. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers. Inserts items into containers for damage free shipments. Use hand tools such as hammers or banders to secure boxes or containers for shipment. Posts weights, shipping charges and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments.  Rejects damaged goods, records shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Examines outgoing goods to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Organizes these materials in a warehouse. Is competent concerning load construction including multi-stop loads. Performs daily checks on forklifts to assure that they are in safe working order.                15. Attends required training sessions and wears the required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses and                           other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs or tasks.     16. Be responsible for training and direction of temporary workers and new hires.     17. Is willing to learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.                         QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  One-year experience in forklift driving.  COMPUTER SKILLS Experience with computers and basic keyboarding skills. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in changing situations.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
