General Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Low Voltage Security System Technician to install, maintain, and repair security systems in residential and commercial environments. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent customer interaction, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, program, and test security and alarm systems in homes and businesses
  • Service and repair existing alarm systems, including diagnosing and resolving technical issues
  • Perform system upgrades, device replacements, and preventative maintenance
  • Ensure all installations meet company standards, local codes, and safety requirements
  • Educate customers on system operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and service reports
  • Coordinate with team members, project managers, and customers to complete jobs on time

Additional Duties

  • Run, route, and terminate low voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, coax, etc.)
  • Trim out devices including keypads, cameras, sensors, and control panels
  • Assist with system layout planning and basic troubleshooting of network-connected devices
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working condition

Qualifications

  • Experience installing and servicing alarm or low voltage systems preferred
  • Basic understanding of wiring, networking, and electronic systems
  • Ability to read and follow technical diagrams and plans
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DSP Security Technician Installer License

Preferred Experience

  • 1–3+ years of experience installing and servicing alarm or low voltage systems
  • Experience with residential and/or commercial security systems (burglar alarms, cameras, access control)
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Alarm.com, Qolsys, Honeywell/Resideo, or similar
  • Experience running and terminating low voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, coax)
  • Pre-wire and trim experience in new construction environments
  • Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, routers, Wi-Fi troubleshooting)
  • Experience in production home or builder environments is a plus
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and system layouts
  • Experience with smart home integrations (Z-Wave devices, automation systems)
  • OSHA certification or safety training is a plus

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working in attics, crawl spaces, and confined areas
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Work Environment

  • Field-based role working in residential and commercial settings
  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team
