Comptroller/Director of Financial Accounting

Primary Function:

路 The Comptroller/Director of Financial Accounting is responsible for managing the Health System鈥檚 financial reporting and compliance functions in accordance with GASB accounting standards. Reporting to the CFO, this role oversees key accounting processes including the monthly close, financial statement preparation, annual audits, and tax reporting to ensure accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Leads the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.

2. Manages the monthly close process and delivers timely, accurate financial statements to the Board of Directors in accordance with the established reporting schedule.

3. Supervises and provides strategic guidance to the Sr. Accountant and Accountants, ensuring accurate journal entries and general ledger integrity.

4. Coordinates and manages the annual financial audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.

5. Oversees the preparation and filing of the annual IRS Form 990s and all tax reporting.

Qualifications

Educational requirements:

路 Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

Licensure:

路 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

Experience:

路 8+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare setting, with demonstrated expertise in applying GASB accounting standards.

路 Proven track record in leading audits, preparing financial statements, and handling tax returns.

路 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail

路 Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills

路 Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
