The Assistant Professor and Director, Pre-Licensure Clinical Placements is a faculty leadership role that combines the academic responsibilities of an Assistant Professor with strategic and operational leadership for undergraduate clinical education and placement. The position assumes a leadership role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and student learning experiences in classroom, laboratory/simulation, and clinical settings while providing oversight of clinical placement processes, clinical partnerships, adjunct clinical instructors, and related systems. The Director serves as a primary liaison among JCN faculty, staff, students, clinical partners, and the broader Jefferson enterprise and supports an environment conducive to learning, strong academic-practice partnerships, and positive student/faculty relationships.Responsibilities Include:
Faculty Teaching, Scholarship and Service
• Provide theory and/or clinical instruction and utilize contemporary and
innovative teaching methodologies in classroom, laboratory/simulation, and
clinical settings.
• Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students, as applicable.
• Develop and implement a scholarly agenda and contribute to the nursing
profession through scholarly papers, presentations, publications,
grantsmanship, or other appropriate scholarly activity.
• Serve on College and/or University committees and demonstrate an emerging
leadership role.
• Represent the College in appropriate University activities and participate
actively in professional organizations at the local, state, or national level.
• Participate in College and University recruitment activities and activities that
support the quality of nursing care and the nursing profession.
Clinical Placement Leadership and Operations
• Communicate effectively and bi-directionally as a primary point of contact
between clinical site personnel and JCN faculty, staff, and students.
• Lead and coordinate undergraduate clinical placement processes, including
site relations, placement needs, site-specific requirements, and student and
adjunct clinical instructor compliance.
• Collaborate with Chairs and program leadership to determine the number and
type of clinical placements needed each semester by program and level.
• Deploy and support clinical placement request processes to route student
requests to appropriate faculty for review, vetting, and approval.
• Oversee undergraduate aspects of the clinical management system and
collaborate on implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical
placement technology and software.
Clinical Partnerships and Academic-Practice Integration
• Identify, vet, cultivate, and maintain affiliated clinical education sites to expand
high-quality clinical learning opportunities that reflect sound patient/client
management, ethical and professional conduct, and contemporary nursing
practice.
• Actively cultivate relationships throughout the Jefferson enterprise to develop
and sustain a strategic pool of internal clinical placement opportunities.
• Build and strengthen community partnerships to meet clinical education needs
as part of the Academic Practice Integration team.
• Serve as a JCN representative to Jefferson regional nurse residency advisory
boards and other appropriate academic-practice forums.
• Collaborate with the clinical contracts coordinator to ensure affiliation
agreements remain current and new agreements are processed efficiently.
• Contribute to Academic Practice Integration strategic planning and
development of policies and procedures for clinical placement, management,
communication, and evaluation.
Clinical Quality and Adjunct Faculty Leadership
• Maintain clinical site rounding, preceptor, adjunct instructor, and clinical site
evaluation information to support strategic planning and quality improvement.
• Review clinical site evaluations and collaborate with Program Directors and
site contacts when sites do not meet established evaluation benchmarks.
• Lead the hiring, onboarding, evaluation/remediation, and professional
development of adjunct clinical instructors.
• Collaborate with appropriate JCN partners to maintain and update handbooks,
guidance, and resources for adjunct clinical instructors
Administrative and Professional Responsibilities
• Prepare internal and external correspondence, reports, and other materials
related to clinical education and academic-practice initiatives.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff,
students, clinical faculty, clinical preceptors, alumni, visitors, and internal and
external partners.
• Exercise judgment requiring broad interpretation of policies, procedures, and
instructions within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
• Interact with co-workers, visitors, students, faculty, and partners consistent
with the core values of the University.
• Perform related duties as assigned
Supervisory / Leadership Responsibilities
Provides leadership and direction to adjunct clinical instructors and others supporting clinical placement activities, including instructing, assigning and reviewing work, and participating in hiring, onboarding, evaluation, remediation, and professional development activities as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in nursing or an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution.
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
State Board of Nursing licensure for states where clinical assignments are performed, as applicable.
Professional specialty certification as applicable to teaching assignment.
Evidence of continuing education and professional memberships relevant to areas of expertise.

Experience Requirements
Â
Two (2) years at the rank of Instructor at an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
Five (5) years full-time post-secondary teaching experience at an accredited institution OR five (5) years full-time clinical experience OR a combination of the above.
Evidence of scholarship, other than the doctoral dissertation, demonstrated through contributions to professional literature, presentations at national, state, or local meetings, and/or grantsmanship.
Participation in College and/or University committees and professional organizations at the local, state, or national level.
Experience in clinical education, clinical placement coordination, academic-practice partnerships, or related nursing education operations strongly preferred.
Experience supporting, supervising, onboarding, developing, or evaluating adjunct clinical faculty preferred.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office. Experience with clinical placement, compliance, or clinical management systems preferred.
