The Defender Association of Philadelphia is looking for Bilingual Switchboard Operator to provide excellent customer service to our clients and callers who are Spanish speaking. General Services supports all areas of Defender Association and is often the first contact a client has with the organization. If you love helping people and making an impact on people’s lives, this may be the perfect role for you. The bilingual switchboard operator must have a friendly, personable speaking voice and find helping others rewarding. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity to grow in the organization by learning essential clerical work and other administrative duties.Â
What You’ll Do
- Provide excellent customer service to all callers by responding to calls in a prompt, friendly and professional manner
- Respond to a high volume of calls while researching clients’ informationÂ
- Assist and communicate with bilingual callers, prior to transferring calls to Spanish Interpreters
- Assists attorneys with Interviews by sitting in and interpreting for Spanish speaking clients, when necessarily
- Provide assistance to callers to assess how best to direct their calls
- Learn about the Defender’s comprehensive services to our clients and families
- Serves as back up to Front Desk Receptionist when necessary
What You Need
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent requiredÂ
- Written and oral proficiency of Spanish language required
- Previous customer service and/or switchboard experience preferred
- Clerical or administrative experience preferred
- Friendly, professional demeanor
- Strong customer service attitude and ability to keep calm composure during stressful situations
- Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise
- Basic typing skills and date entry skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Basic understanding of office equipment and clerical procedures
