Title: Criminal Legal Assistant
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Pay: $36.15 - $41.24 / hour

KMRG, LLC (KMRG) is a federal services company that hires talented professionals to support Government agencies and the communities they serve. We are hiring a Criminal Legal Assistant to join our team and provide support to the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO), Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Criminal Division.

In this role, you will support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) with legal document preparation, pretrial and trial support, electronic court filings, legal research, case tracking, calendars, witness coordination, travel support, and records organization.

This position is a strong fit for a legal-support professional who is organized, detail-focused, comfortable working with case information and legal deadlines, and able to provide reliable support in a busy federal legal office.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal & Litigation Support
  • Review and prepare legal documents, including Grand Jury subpoenas
  • Prepare Grand Jury indictment packages and other materials supporting criminal proceedings
  • Assist with pretrial and trial preparation by reviewing and organizing case-file information and trial binders
  • Assemble exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents for attorney review and use
  • Compile witness lists and assist with scheduling witnesses and court reporters
  • Coordinate witness travel arrangements when required
  • Interact with witnesses, investigative agents, other agencies, and internal USAO personnel
  • Perform other related legal duties assigned within the scope of the requirement
Electronic Filing & Legal Research
  • Prepare and submit electronic court filings using ECF/PACER
  • Assist with legal research using automated tools such as Courtlink and public information databases
  • Use online legal resources to locate information supporting assigned criminal matters
  • Verify legal citations and support attorneys with research-related case preparation
  • Provide assistance in assigned areas of criminal proceedings using available legal and public-information resources
  • Apply legal-support processes, procedures, office skills, and practices to support assigned AUSAs
Case Tracking, Calendars & Deadlines
  • Maintain an automated case-tracking system for assigned matters
  • Maintain calendars of active court matters, including filings, hearings, and trial dates
  • Schedule appointments, interviews, conferences, and other deadlines for AUSAs
  • Provide reminders for court appearances, commitments, and other time-sensitive obligations
  • Track scheduling information and deadlines needed to support attorney case activity
  • Coordinate case-related scheduling with appropriate internal and external contacts
Travel & Administrative Support
  • Arrange official travel by preparing itineraries and securing transportation and hotel reservations
  • Prepare travel authorizations and vouchers
  • Prepare internal authorizations for requested goods or services, such as deposition transcripts
  • Support administrative coordination associated with attorney and witness travel
  • Provide office support that increases the effectiveness of assigned AUSAs
  • Coordinate with other agencies and internal personnel as required to support assigned matters
Files, Records & Case Organization
  • Organize case-file information and litigation materials for pretrial and trial use
  • Assemble and maintain exhibits, affidavits, trial binders, and related legal materials
  • Assemble and organize files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depositories
  • Maintain orderly case documentation to support attorney access and case preparation
  • Protect DOJ information and use it only as necessary to perform contract duties
  • Safeguard paper, digital, and electronic media containing DOJ information
Federal Legal Office Support
  • Support Assistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division with technical Legal Assistant services
  • Work with legal documents, case information, court schedules, witnesses, and investigative personnel
  • Use Government-furnished computer, laptop, office phone, and/or cell phone when provided
  • Follow DOJ information-security, confidentiality, and system-access requirements
  • Maintain professional communication with Government personnel and external contacts

REQUIRED BACKGROUND
  • Experience and qualifications that align with the position

LOCATION
  • Primary place of performance is 615 Chestnut Street, Suite 1250, Philadelphia, PA 19106
  • Services are required at the USAO location; in rare instances, services may be required at an alternative location

TRAVEL
  • Travel is not anticipated

SECURITY
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years or qualify through specified federal/military status

CLIENT
