Design Intern

Job Summary:
Assist the design team in developing project concepts, producing design documents, procuring materials, and supporting the execution of multifamily, commercial, and design projects, with an immediate focus on model unit staging.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Team Assistance including:

  • Assist the design team in developing project designs through sketches, 3D models, and digital design files.
  • Produce and maintain documentation in Revit/AutoCAD for multifamily common spaces, commercial tenant fit-outs, and other design-build projects.
  • Create visual aids such as collages, renderings, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct site surveys and provide field support by verifying existing conditions.
  • Utilize BIM technologies for creating detailed three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
  • Assist with maintenance of the materials library.
  • Manage design documents and construction sketches.
  • Visit job sites and document the construction progress through photographs and notes for future reference and reporting.
  • Procure finishes, fixtures, equipment and accessories.
  • Support project closeout by assisting with punch lists and the preparation of final project reports.
  • Work closely with senior designers to incorporate design changes based on feedback, site conditions, or material availability.

Model Unit Staging including:

  • Assist with both the set up and breakdown of staged units
  • Assist with model unit style guides
  • Offer practical and feasible solutions, quickly, to problems as they arise in day-today operations
  • Iron/steam any bedding, blankets, drapery, etc.
  • Touch up furniture, art and accessories, vacuum, polish furniture and glass (general detailing of the finished product)
  • Wash, dry, and fold any model linens, towels, etc. as needed
  • Walk staged units, so that each remain at 100% for the duration that the unit is staged
  • Send work order requests to Facilities Manager
  • Communicate with Facilities Manager and Maintenance Staff throughout the day to gauge progress
  • Notify Management to report issues inside any unit
  • Order model supplies
  • Coordinate furniture deliveries and storage locations
  • Work with Marketing Team on photo shoot set-up


Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; experience with SketchUp and Adobe Photoshop a plus.
  • Strong understanding of design documentation and ability to work on active construction sites.
  • Self-motivated, professional in appearance and speech, with excellent graphic, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and execute them clearly, manage multiple projects and timelines, and remain calm under pressure.
  • A valid driver's license and the daily use of your own vehicle are necessary
  • Travel to properties outside of Pennsylvania may be required
  • Currently in pursuit of an architectural, interior design or other design related degree.
