Direct Support Professional
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing supervision, safety, and direct support to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and behavioral health histories in community-based residential settings. DSPs support individuals in developing healthy, socially acceptable behaviors and achieving personal and clinical goals.
This role works collaboratively with clinical and program staff to implement residential interventions and individualized program plans. The DSP assists individuals with activities of daily living and promotes independence while supporting full participation in home and community life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Care
Provide supervision and support to individuals in accordance with their Person-Centered Support Plan.
Implement residentially based interventions and support individuals in achieving clinical goals and assignments.
Prompt or assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) including meal preparation, hygiene, toileting, dressing, and household tasks as needed.
Administer medications as required and in accordance with agency policies and training.
Provide transportation for individuals to appointments, community activities, and other program-related needs.
Support individuals in community integration activities, including access to medical care, social services, and recreational opportunities.
Encourage independence, skill development, and socially appropriate behavior.
Administrative Responsibilities
Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Communicate changes in participant status, behavior, or needs to supervisors and clinical staff.
Participate in required trainings, meetings, and team collaboration.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred
Experience
Previous experience working in human services, behavioral health, or intellectual/developmental disability services preferred
Additional Requirements
Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with at least three (3) years of driving experience required
Ability to transport individuals safely in the community
Basic computer and internet literacy, including email and electronic documentation systems
Ability to complete all required employment screenings and clearances, including:
Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
FBI Clearance (if applicable)
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in participants’ homes and community-based settings.
Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on program needs.
Physical Requirements
