GPHA, a non-profit organization that was founded in 1970, is hiring Full-time Medical Interpreters Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, at multiple locations:
  • Chinatown Medical Services, 432 N. 6th St. Phila., PA 19123
  • Frankford Ave Health Center, 4500 - 4510 Frankford Ave. Phila., PA 19124
  • Southeast Health Center, 800 Washington Ave. Phila., PA 19147

We require a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Social Work, or Languages with certification in Medical Interpreting. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in other disciplines may apply if they have a minimum of 2 years of medical interpreting experience. Experience in social services (or healthcare setting) working with immigrants is a plus; Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese is preferredExcellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a healthcare team are essentialAbility to deal with people sympathetically and effectively to obtain necessary information. CPR certification is required. Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred, NextGen experience is a plus.

 

Specific Responsibilities and duties include: The Medical Interpreter is responsible for assisting Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients during medical visits, appointments, and administrative tasks. This involves interpreting accurately and impartially without adding, omitting, or altering any information exchanged between healthcare professionals and the patient. The Medical Interpreter is also responsible assisting LEP clients with communication regarding lab results and appointments, coordinating referrals, performing psychological evaluations, documenting patient encounters, and participating in group health education activities and counseling sessions as needed. It is important for the Medical Interpreter to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards while interpreting.
