Philadelphia Zoo, America’s first zoo, is seeking a Social Media Associate and Content Producer. This role serves as “the voice of the Zoo” — leading strategy, development, and production of content across all social media channels.
As the Zoo’s key visual storyteller, you will produce compelling photo and video content that captures the Zoo’s most amazing animal stories while driving general admission ticket sales, membership purchases, event visitation, and philanthropic support. Your content will also be utilized across the Zoo’s website, email marketing, and public relations efforts.
This role requires close collaboration with all departments across the Zoo. The ideal candidate works effectively under pressure, meets strict deadlines, adapts to changing circumstances, and operates with minimal supervision while remaining a strong team contributor. A customer service mindset and commitment to advancing the Zoo’s mission are essential.

Content Strategy & Social Media Management
- Manage content creation across the Zoo’s owned social channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit), maintaining adherence to channel strategy and voice
- Own and maintain a content calendar that balances storytelling with promotional priorities across all channels
- Write and edit copy for social media, web, email, signage, and marketing campaigns as needed to support Zoo initiatives
- Develop social content (copy, creative, video, short-form) that is engaging and optimized for how audiences consume content today
- Proactively seek, scope, propose, and execute storytelling opportunities across social channels with oversight from the Communications Director
- Monitor internet culture, memes, and platform updates to swiftly pitch and implement relevant, timely content ideas
Community Management & Growth
- Monitor, respond to, and engage with followers across social channels daily to build community and resolve inquiries in real time
- Leverage organic social media as a full-funnel marketing channel to drive brand affinity, engagement, consideration, and measurable ticket and revenue conversion
Photo & Video Production
- Produce photo and video content for the Zoo’s social channels, including short-form (Reels, TikTok) and long-form formats on a consistent publishing schedule
- Shoot and edit assets end-to-end using the Zoo’s DSLR cameras, Adobe Photoshop, and Premiere Pro
- Capture animal content across diverse environments, including low-light, humid, and outdoor habitats, adapting to unpredictable animal behavior
Analytics & Reporting
- Analyze performance data and extract actionable insights tied to engagement, content resonance, and revenue impact
General
- Support day-to-day operational needs of the Marketing Team including additional content writing, department support, event assistance, and office administration tasks
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in film, photography, communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field
- At least three years of proven experience in social media, written communications, or photo/video production at a business or cultural institution comparable in size and complexity to the Zoo
- Operational knowledge of trends and audiences across multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, and Reddit
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Canva, and Sprout Social or Hootsuite
- Successful completion of a pre-employment tuberculosis test and drug screen
- Able to work around plants and animals
- Satisfactory completion of a post-offer personal background check including criminal history
- A valid driver’s license

Working Conditions, Physical, Medical & Additional Requirements
Must successfully complete drug test and tuberculosis test prior to assuming position; ability to life 15lbs, may require combination of sitting, standing, walking throughout the Zoo, successful completion of a post-offer criminal and child abuse clearances, credit record check prior to assuming position, must be able to utilize the following equipment, e.g., computer, telephone, copier and printer.
