This role requires a high percentage of interaction with volunteers who may or may not be experienced reading directions on packing food and may require additional support. The Repack department is responsible for managing the volunteer activity with the Events Department. Guide volunteers in the packing and sorting of all donated food under the guidance and supervision of the repack team. Ensure safety, process and desired outcome is clearly communicated with outlined expectations. The Supervisor will work in an open warehouse environment and in a cooler/freezer to help move perishable and non-perishable food products through Philabundance’s system. This position will be a mix of leadership and general labor within the warehouse. The focus will be to mentor, train and manage the overall performance of the team for a desired output of activity. This will be aligned and coordinated with the Food Sourcing and Warehouse teams. Engagement: contributes to the success of the organization by embracing teamwork, taking initiative on tasks and problem-resolution, and seeking out learning opportunities Primary Responsibilities: Manage team resources to ensure appropriate support is available, this includes but is not limited to, work planning, attendance, performance, training, and staffing. Exemplify a high level of positive customer service; professionally communicate with customers/volunteers in a courteous manner and respect agency personnel and clientele. Identify, track, and provide accurate timely reporting of repack activity, support for inventory statuses quality control and team and staff performance levels, including attendance, customer service and production levels. Establish and execute proactive practices for picking, staging, loading, and shipping orders. Shared responsibility of the health and efficiency of the warehouse which includes but not limited ownership of clean work environment, safety standards, responsible food handling standards (Serve Safe), and collaboration with internal and external customers. Manages and invites the identification and development of solutions for problem areas, creative and proactive thought for improvements and the resolution of roadblocks by the entire team. Manage preliminary reporting through available tools, consistent attention to detail and metrics established and maintained with warehouse leadership. Ensure appropriate support, training and process support is provided for Food Defense Initiatives. Ensure utilization of appropriate tools from moving products to time tracking. Execute solutions for problem areas, drives improvements, innovation, and the resolution of roadblocks. Must wear uniform and safety gear, ensure team aligns with this requirement. Responsible for supporting and aligning with Philabundance Cultural pillars. Ensure communications, actions and interactions reflect a focus on People, Professionalism, Partnerships, and Progress. Additional Duties: Provide safety and process guidance to Associates to ensure processes are followed, shipping and receiving needs are prepared and effective. Collaborate with Inventory Control and Quality Control team and Warehouse staff. Ensure accurate tracking of inventory, database system, real time. QualificationsEducational Achievement High School Diploma or GED preferred. Extended Degree in logistics, business, or warehouse management preferred. Serve Safe Certification preferred. Must be able to certify within 30 days of hire. Forklift Certification highly preferred, must secure by first 30 days and progress to be able to teach, coach and certify others. Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of heavy equipment experience, ideally in a grocery, food focused industry. Previous experience handling escalations, providing solutions, and leading directly or indirectly. Previous work in a team environment with deadlines, detail, safety, and large equipment. Previous experience with organization, shared goals, and defined instructions. Warehouse experience using forklift, pallet jack and other equipment used to move products. Previous experience working within a defined operating system, follow directions, consistent placement, and tracking. Preferred Experience leading and influencing others in a team environment providing input on performance, goals and deadlines and quality of product and work levels. Previous automated inventory experience, able to manage database data entry. Experience moving food, frozen, fresh or shelf stored, with interaction to public. Inventory, Shipping/Receiving experience. Required Skills and Abilities: Experience using standard warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, man-ups and reach trucks is required. Must be able to train and certify others in forklift usage. Ability to diffuse escalations, offer options and solutions aligned with Philabundance business practices and mission. Excellent customer service, ability to work with vendors, volunteers, and visitors to the warehouse. Ability to take responsibility for the outcome of others and resolve issues. Ability to read, write and complete basic math to support inventory, space calculations and tracking as is needed. Must be able to tolerate some extreme temperatures when moving food and products through inventory and shipping process. Ability to use email, input data into database, and can learn new technical skills and apply to work habits. Ability to successfully operate large equipment safely, work around mechanical machines and people. Ability to learn and work well within a defined operating system, follow directions, consistent placement, and tracking. Ability to learn and grow with the position and the business needs. Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Ability to follow instructions, retain information and apply information, with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Strong knowledge of Inventory, Shipping/Receiving, Quality Control, OSHA and Safety requirements highly preferred. Administrative capability to work with databases, produce reports, communication, analysis and present internally and externally preferred. (Microsoft suite, ppt, database exp. and Zoom/Teams) Previous experience owning and influencing a complex process to a positive defined outcome. Basics of management which include attendance, performance, rewards, discipline, and training. Familiarity with on-time delivery standards and quality requirements. Essential Job Functions: Must have the ability to be available evenings, weekends and take on extended hours as business needs demand. Occasionally, must be willing and able to travel within and outside of the service area (employee can use public transportation, rideshare service, personal vehicle, or other means) Must be physically compatible with travel, office visits, events, and meetings. Must have valid driver’s license if using company vehicle. Bend, stop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, walk, and turn/pivot throughout an 8-hour shift, 5 days a week. Move/lower, push/pull and carry objects/parcels no greater than 50 pounds; when moving/lowering, pushing/pulling, and carrying objects/parcels greater than 50 pounds use 2 people or mechanical. Ability to work inside a freezer with a temperature in the range of -10 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit as well as in a humid warehouse. Move packages to heights above shoulder and lower to foot level. Ability to operate pallet jack, both manual and power, and ride jack to load/unload trucks. Reach, grasp, and maintain control of items and materials used to perform activities associated with delivering and picking up packages. Perform additional tasks using simple hand grasp, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks such as keying. Maintain a work pace aligned by meeting or exceeding piece per minute/production standards. Work in an environment that will contain variable temperatures and humidity, outside weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust/dirt, confined work areas. Must meet all the applicable requirements as specified by OSHA. See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper safety conditions. Maintain an acceptable work pace and align with required personal and team deadlines. Must meet goals. Demonstrate cognitive ability to: provide direction as well as follow directions and routines, work independently with appropriate judgment, read words and numbers, concentrate, memorize, recall, identify logical connections and determine sequence of response, process proactively and identify near and long-term future needs as well as evaluate problems and escalate/inform management as is necessary. Note: This role requires the successful completion of a drug test and background check. Light travel is required for this role. If using company vehicles must meet requirements must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
