Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Cardiovascular Operating Room Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, you will play a pivotal role in the "Heart & Lung Institute," the nation's sole stand-alone lung transplant center, within our Cardiac Service Line of Excellence. You will prepare patients for surgical procedures and provide exceptional care in our seven state-of-the-art CTOR surgical suites, which operate from 6:30 am to 7 pm and conduct over 1500 cases annually.

 

Every day you will review consent forms, address patient inquiries, conduct preoperative assessments, and ensure equipment readiness. You will keep family members informed about the surgery's progress and directly assist the surgeon during procedures. You will work within a specialized staffing ratio including two RN circulators, a cardiothoracic scrub technician, and a Physician's Assistant, supported by additional clinical and technical personnel.

 

To be successful in this role, you must have the ability to multitask effectively, maintain composure under pressure, and demonstrate sound judgment in emergency scenarios. Your expertise and dedication will directly contribute to the vital support of complex cardiac and lung transplant cases within a high-volume, specialized surgical environment.

 

  • Assist surgeon and surgical team in the OR
  • Care for patients before, during, and after procedures
  • Develop and implement nursing care plan for surgical patients
  • Ensure operating rooms are prepped with all necessary equipment and supplies
  • Demonstrate a high level of compassion for patients

Job Requirements

Required

  • ADN, Diploma, or Foreign Equivalent
  • Registered Nurse: AZ or Compact license
  • American Heart Association BLS 
  • American Heart Association ACLS, within 60 days

Preferred

  • BSN
  • One (1) year recent acute care experience
