We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead HVAC Installer / Change-Out Technician to lead and grow our commercial change-out team. The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of hands-on experience in the HVAC trade, with a strong background in commercial equipment installations, replacements, start-ups, troubleshooting, and job leadership.

This position will work closely with our HVAC service and installation teams while supporting our commercial customer base. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, productivity, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Lead commercial HVAC installation and change-out projects from equipment removal through start-up and completion.
  • Perform and oversee installations, replacements, and commissioning of commercial HVAC equipment, including:
    • Split systems
    • Mini-split systems
    • Packaged rooftop and package units, from small applications to large-tonnage equipment
    • Cooling towers
    • Pumps
    • Associated controls and HVAC accessories
  • Install, replace, and modify ductwork, including:
    • Duct transitions
    • New duct installations
    • Duct replacements
    • Equipment connections and fittings
  • Coordinate daily work activities with team members, project managers, service technicians, customers, and other trades.
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, equipment submittals, and scope-of-work documents.
  • Verify equipment placement, rigging requirements, clearances, electrical and piping connections, duct connections, and code compliance.
  • Perform equipment start-up, system checks, airflow verification, and operational testing.
  • Identify installation issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Train, mentor, and develop less-experienced installers and technicians.
  • Help establish efficient processes for scheduling, staging, installation, documentation, and closeout.
  • Maintain accurate job records, material lists, service documentation, and commissioning reports.
  • Communicate project status, delays, material needs, and field conditions to management.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, professionally, and in accordance with company standards and applicable codes.
  • Support the broader HVAC team and respond to commercial customer needs as required.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer locations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10 or more years of professional HVAC experience, with significant commercial installation and change-out experience.
  • Demonstrated experience installing and replacing commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Strong experience with commercial split systems, mini-splits, packaged units, cooling towers, pumps, ductwork, and equipment start-up.
  • Ability to lead crews and coordinate work on active commercial job sites.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC installation practices, system operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read mechanical plans, equipment documentation, and installation specifications.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, recovery equipment, testing instruments, and standard HVAC service tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical, electrical, and safety codes.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with customers and management.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift equipment and materials, work from ladders and lifts, and perform physical work in commercial environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
  • State or local HVAC license or applicable journeyman credential.
  • Experience with large-tonnage commercial systems and rooftop equipment.
  • Experience with cranes, rigging, roof access, and equipment placement.
  • Experience with controls, economizers, VFDs, pumps, and cooling tower systems.
  • Experience estimating labor or materials for change-out projects.
  • Proven ability to train and develop installation personnel.
  • OSHA safety training or other relevant industry certifications.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, warehouses, malls, offices, and other commercial facilities.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver HVAC equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime, evenings, weekends, or emergency schedules based on project and customer needs.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with company safety policies.
