Your Opportunity

As the Phoenix Data Center Manager, you will join the Charles Schwab Corporate Real Estate (CRE) Critical Environments organization, reporting to the Director of Critical Facility Services and Western Region Facility Operations.

 

You will be responsible for operational, technical, and strategic management of the firm’s Arizona-region data centers, which currently comprise one owned data center and three colocation data centers.

 

The position will collaborate with CRE Texas Region Data Center Managers, colocation providers, a contingent facilities management service provider, and CRE Property Managers to ensure the quality, consistency, and reliability of client services.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee facilities management for Schwab’s owned and leased data center locations, balancing safety, availability, and cost.
  • Build partnerships across Technology, Finance, Security, external service providers, Project Management, and CRE leadership.
  • Partner with Technology, Property Management, and facilities management vendors to refine metrics and SLAs.
  • Drive efficiency to reduce operating expenses while maintaining critical infrastructure reliability.
  • Implement cost-effective best practices using benchmarks and tools (e.g., CFD, DCIM) for capacity and demand analytics.
  • Manage capital and expense budgets; review expenses with Finance to stay within guidelines.
  • Contribute to short- and long-term planning for Corporate Real Estate and Property Management.
  • Lead EHS, facility availability, and DR contingency planning/execution for Schwab’s data centers and critical facilities.
  • Support special projects and other assigned duties.
  • Support internal and external audits.

What you have

  • BS in electrical/mechanical engineering preferred; significant data center operations and maintenance experience considered as an alternative.
  • 5+ years of facilities management experience in data centers or other critical facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of data center operations, hardware technologies, and critical facilities support.
  • Work safely in complex infrastructure environments; identify and correct unsafe conditions/activities.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills; experience with redundant electrical/mechanical systems (UPS, distribution, generator paralleling).
  • Build collaborative relationships across client organizations and external service providers at all levels.
  • Coordinate cross-functional IT and Facilities teams.
  • Stay organized and detail-oriented; manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Work effectively under pressure—independently and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment—using sound judgment.
  • Balance business needs and strategic goals while managing complex operations in a multipurpose technology campus.
  • Financial reporting/accountability experience for facilities capital and operating expenses.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer-focused with strong relationship management skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • This role is “always on” and requires 24x7x365 availability, as needed.
  • Maintenance often occurs after hours; flexibility in work hours is required.
  • Travel (<15%) and/or provide technical support to other corporate locations, as needed.
  • Experience with critical facility operations software (e.g., BAS, SCADA, Fire Alarm, CADD, CMMS) and Microsoft Office.
