The primary role of the Mechanic is to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment in order to optimize the needs of operations and minimize equipment down time.

 Essential Responsibilities                                                                                                                                                                    

 

  1. Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair power train, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  2. Assist in execution of preventative maintenance program by performing oil and fluid changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, CHP BIT inspections, etc.
  3. Perform on-road emergency service calls.
  4. Make recommendations for parts, equipment and fabrication orders.
  5. Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate repairs.
  6. Utilize fleet management software to perform data entry, maintain accurate records and prepare various reports upon request, paying close attention to accuracy and detail.
  7. Utilize service manuals as well as online technical resources, service literature and diagnostic software.
  8. Observe and comply with hazardous waste and material handling and disposal procedures and regulations as set forth by local, state and federal environmental and health agencies.
  9. Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
  10. Maintain clean, safe and organized work space.
  11. Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers and communicate timeline for downed vehicles.
  12. Mentor and provide assistance to Mechanic Trainees.
  13. Participate in external, Department and Company-wide trainings to increase skill sets and improve service.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities                                                                                                                                                             

 Knowledge of:

  • Diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components and parts.
  • Methods, tools, equipment and systems used in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Vehicle computer diagnostic systems and fleet management software.
  • Federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices.

 Education, Training & Experience                                                                                                                                                    

  1. One year of related experience servicing diesel engines required.
  2. High school diploma or GED preferred.
  3. Experience in the resource recovery industry a plus.
  4. Certifications a plus.
  5. Class B license a plus.
  6. Must supply own tools.
