Job DetailsJob Location: PHOENIX, AZ 85021Position Type: Full TimeJob Shift: DayJob Category: ManufacturingPosition Summary The Mechanical Assembly Technician performs mechanical assembly, hardware installation, subassembly build, final system integration, and related production support activities for printed circuit board assemblies and higher-level electronic assemblies. This role supports the efficient, safe, and repeatable assembly of chassis, brackets, antenna, heat sinks, covers, fasteners, mechanical hardware, cables, and other electro-mechanical components in accordance with work instructions, drawings, quality requirements, and customer expectations. The Mechanical Assembly Technician works closely with Operations, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, SMT Engineering and Quality teams to ensure assemblies are built correctly, documentation is followed, defects are identified early, and production commitments are met. The role requires strong attention to detail, workmanship discipline, ESD/FOD awareness, and the ability to work effectively in a regulated electronics manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Assembly and Production Execution Assemble mechanical and electro-mechanical products, subassemblies, and higher-level assemblies using released work instructions, drawings, visual aids, and travelers. Install brackets, hardware, standoffs, heat sinks, labels, shields, chassis parts, card guides, cable supports, and other mechanical components required to complete the build. Perform fastening, torque application, hardware preparation, adhesive application, fitting, alignment, and other mechanical assembly tasks in accordance with defined requirements. Support final assembly activities for PCB-based products, including mating of printed circuit board assemblies into enclosures, racks, frames, or other customer-configured mechanical structures. Handle materials, parts, and assemblies carefully to prevent cosmetic, mechanical, or electrostatic damage during build and movement through the factory. Work Instructions, Quality, and Workmanship Read and follow assembly drawings, bills of material, travelers, visual work instructions, torque requirements, and other manufacturing documentation accurately. Verify part numbers, revision levels, hardware types, orientation, and assembly sequence before and during build. Inspect completed work for workmanship, fit, alignment, hardware security, labeling accuracy, and conformance to requirements before moving assemblies to the next operation. Identify and escalate discrepancies such as missing parts, damaged hardware, out-of-tolerance fit, drawing conflicts, unclear instructions, or potential quality concerns. Maintain strong workmanship standards and support compliance with internal procedures, customer requirements, ESD controls, and FOD prevention practices. Support for Electronics Manufacturing Operations Work in coordination with SMT, hand assembly, soldering, inspection, conformal coating, and test teams to ensure completed assemblies are ready for downstream operations. Support light cable routing, connector installation, board-to-board integration, and simple electro-mechanical build tasks as required by the product configuration. Assist with rework support, disassembly, retrofit, and engineering change implementation when authorized and properly documented. Prepare completed assemblies for next-step processing, inspection, packaging, or shipment in accordance with manufacturing requirements. Tools, Equipment, and Safety Use hand tools, torque tools, fixtures, measuring devices, label equipment, and other basic production equipment safely and correctly. Maintain a clean, organized, and production-ready workstation while following 5S, safety, and housekeeping expectations. Report tool issues, equipment concerns, damaged fixtures, or recurring assembly obstacles to supervision in a timely manner. Follow all applicable safety requirements for mechanical assembly work, lifting, handling, adhesives, solvents, and general manufacturing operations. Teamwork, Flexibility, and Continuous Improvement Work collaboratively with peers, leads, supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel to meet daily production goals and resolve build issues quickly. Provide feedback on unclear work instructions, recurring fit issues, tooling needs, or process problems that affect quality or efficiency. Cross-train in multiple assembly tasks and support changing production priorities across product lines as needed. Support continuous improvement efforts that improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and workmanship consistency. QualificationsQualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in mechanical assembly, electro-mechanical assembly, electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly, box build, chassis assembly, or related production work preferred. Ability to read and follow work instructions, assembly drawings, parts lists, and revision-controlled manufacturing documentation. Basic familiarity with mechanical hardware, hand tools, torque methods, and safe handling of assemblies and components. Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, reliability, and commitment to workmanship and quality. Ability to work effectively in a team-based production environment with changing priorities and production schedules. Preferred Skills Experience in a PCB assembly, contract manufacturing, aerospace, defense, medical, or other high-reliability electronics manufacturing environment. Familiarity with ESD practices, FOD controls, and traceability requirements. Experience with chassis assembly, cable and connector installation, mechanical integration of PCB assemblies, or final box-build operations. Ability to identify basic assembly defects and escalate issues appropriately. IPC or related manufacturing/workmanship training is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during the workday. Must be able to use hands for repetitive assembly tasks requiring fine motor coordination and manual dexterity. Must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 35 pounds. Ability to work on the production floor and move materials, assemblies, and carts as needed. Ability to support weekend activity as needed.
