The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the operating room assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of patient care which support and complement nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. At a minimum, the PCA carries out designated skills that are within those functions of a certified nursing assistant, as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. The PCA communicates data reflective of the patient's status and delegated tasks and/or functions. The incumbent works flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.
Operating Room PCA General Duties:
- Organizes and cleans central work areas, patient rooms, and patient equipment.
- Assists in operating room turnover including cleaning and removing trash.
- Inventory management of department supplies as delegated by RN or surgical team.
- Retrieval of Blood products from the Blood bank as delegated by the RN.
- Retrieval of specimens and transporting to appropriate laboratory area as delegated by the RN.
- Retrieval of patient beds and equipment from the designated areas as delegated by the RN.
- Demonstrates flexibility to best meet department needs, including floating when necessary.
