Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Practice Setting: Coverage across two hospital facilities supporting Level II NICUs and well-baby nurseries

Schedule: Full-time based on 2,080 hours annually, with part-time opportunities available (minimum 0.5 FTE)

Schedule: Flexible full-time schedule totaling 2,080 annual hours, with part-time opportunities available for physicians seeking a minimum 0.5 FTE commitment

About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life

Join a collaborative pediatric hospital medicine team providing comprehensive inpatient care for newborns across two Phoenix-area hospital campuses. As a Pediatric Hospitalist (Neonatal Care), you'll care for infants in Level II NICUs and well-baby nurseries, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care from birth through discharge.

Working alongside pediatric specialists, nursing teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues, you'll evaluate newborns, manage common neonatal conditions, stabilize infants requiring higher levels of care, and coordinate transfers when appropriate. You'll also partner closely with families, providing education, guidance, and compassionate support throughout each infant's hospital stay.

Beyond direct patient care, you'll contribute to quality improvement initiatives, patient safety efforts, and collaborative care processes that enhance outcomes for newborns and their families.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient care for newborns in Level II NICUs and well-baby nurseries
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage common neonatal conditions
  • Stabilize newborns requiring higher levels of care and coordinate transfers when appropriate
  • Perform newborn admissions, daily management, and discharge planning
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, pediatric specialists, obstetric providers, respiratory therapists, and ancillary teams
  • Educate families regarding newborn health, feeding, discharge planning, and follow-up care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Promote evidence-based clinical practice while delivering compassionate, family-centered care
Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified in Pediatrics (required)
  • New graduates who have passed their board certification and are awaiting Arizona medical licensure are strongly encouraged to apply
  • DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start
  • Current BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, or ability to obtain prior to start
  • Ability to provide comprehensive inpatient newborn care within a Level II NICU and well-baby nursery setting
Preferred Background
  • Experience caring for newborns in Level II NICUs and/or well-baby nurseries
  • Hospital-based pediatric or newborn medicine experience
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication skills
