Academies of Math and Science 

Physical Education Teacher

Location: 6633 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033

Start: 2026-2027 School year

Compensation Range: $48,331.25 - $54,571.88 annually (DOE)

Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking an energetic and student-centered K–8 Physical Education (PE) Teacher to deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and lifelong wellness habits.

AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making.

This role requires a teacher who is passionate about supporting student well-being through physical activity while maintaining high behavioral expectations and fostering a safe, inclusive environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Achievement

  • Deliver standards-aligned physical education instruction that promotes physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.

  • Design engaging lessons and activities that encourage student participation, physical activity, and sportsmanship.

  • Differentiate instruction to ensure accessibility and participation for students of varying skill levels and abilities.

  • Assess student progress in physical fitness, skill development, and participation.

  • Promote lifelong fitness habits and understanding of personal health and wellness.

Classroom Culture & Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations environment during physical activities.

  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies to support student behavior and engagement.

  • Ensure student safety during all physical activities and properly supervise equipment use.

  • Foster teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship among students.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.

  • Collaborate with staff and school leadership to support school-wide wellness initiatives and student engagement.

  • Support school events, field days, and extracurricular physical activity programs when applicable.

  • Contribute to school culture initiatives that promote student well-being and positive behavior.

Family Engagement

  • Communicate with families regarding student participation and progress in physical education.

  • Promote healthy lifestyle habits by providing families with resources and encouragement for physical activity outside of school.

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Valid teaching certification in Physical Education or a related subject area, OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (e.g., Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Education, or similar field), OR

  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–8 teaching or coaching experience

Additionally, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate strong classroom and activity management skills

  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities

  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills

  • Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment

  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
