We Require

  • Two years of experience in public or private sector planning

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or a closely related field

  • Postgraduate degrees or professional-level-related transportation experience may substitute for education or experience on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Must be able to operate a County vehicle when traveling to various geographic locations throughout Maricopa County

  • One year of experience researching to determine land use, socioeconomics, cost-benefit, parcel ownership, peer agency standards, and transportation trends

  • Experience working with GIS applications, Microsoft Excel, and Word

  • Experience reviewing written documents and engineering plan sets

Job Contributions

  • Provide entry-level professional transportation planning services and effective long-range transportation planning practices to achieve a consistent and well-planned transportation system in the County

  • Review development plans for transportation system infrastructure requirements or compliance with applicable County transportation regulations

  • Assist in various transportation planning projects and studies, including scope of work and budget development, and define or update information relating to roadway facilities

  • Assist in the gathering and compiling of data required for Traffic Model analysis (traffic volume and speed, employment patterns, population growth, etc.)

  • Analyze and interpret data from traffic modeling software, geographic information systems, or associated databases

  • Participate in public and agency meetings and state and regional planning groups to explain planning proposals, gather feedback from those affected by projects, or achieve consensus on project plans

  • Conduct research, compile data, and generate reports on various issues related to facilities, transportation systems, asset management, land use, floodplain management, hydrology, drainage, or economic studies

  • Participate in the analysis, development, and documentation of transportation project needs and costs

  • Develop and present professional-quality staff reports on project plans and develop presentations to illustrate planning concepts and issues

  • Other job Duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
