Responsible for the oversight of the Respiratory Program. Persons served include adults with Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord, Stroke, Medically Complex, Orthopedic injuries, and Respiratory conditions requiring mechanical ventilation.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures that all staff levels (RT) function appropriately within the guidelines of the National Board of Respiratory Care and other practice acts as applicable.
  • Delivers direct patient care as necessary. 
  • Demonstrates awareness of budget parameters and meets hospital guidelines with cost. 
  • Is knowledgeable of TJC standards, CMS regulations, National Board of Respiratory Care and ensures standards are implemented in department. 
  • Develops program processes around Rehabilitation specialty certifications such as Magnet, CARF, and Brain and Spinal Cord Injury certification, laboratory (CAP) surveys and accreditation. 
  • Coordinates education of all direct care clinicians around respiratory care, policies and protocols. 
  • Follow appropriate universal precautions during the delivery of care.
  • Uses proper lifting and body mechanics during delivery of care. 
  • Learns new practices, services, regulations programs and shares responsibility for gaps in product, practice or regulatory knowledge.
  • Networks with hospital staff and peer-level staff to share best practices.
  • Organizes, plans, and manages time effectively and performs essential functions. 
  • Successfully completes all assigned training and annual skills competency as determined by the hospital based on responsibilities, specialized equipment, high risk/ problem prone /or low volume procedures including but not limited to emergency response techniques. 
  • Tracks and reports statistics related to respiratory care. 
  • Participates in hospital meetings as appropriate.
  • Coordinates performance improvement activities for respiratory department.
  • Serves as back up BLS instructor for facility.
  • Considers patient/customer comfort and need to control when planning and delivering patient care.
  • Promptly responds to the needs of patients, families, staff and physicians. 
  • Demonstrates commitment to superior customer experiences with a service-oriented attitude.
  • Respects and considers patient/family preferences, goals and privacy when planning/delivering care.
  • Facilitates collaboration and coordination with acute care partners for shared services.   
  • Builds strong relationships with coworkers and other staff, recognizing individual talents and perspectives. 

 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Respiratory Therapist, Registered Respiratory Therapist required.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
