JOB PURPOSE / POSITION OVERVIEW

The Safety Coordinator supports the Company's Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs by coordinating compliance activities, training, safety documentation, and field support. Working under the guidance of Safety leadership, this position helps ensure regulatory compliance, promotes a proactive safety culture, and provides operational support to project teams across the organization.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Department partners with Operations and project teams to protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote safe and environmentally responsible construction practices. The department supports Building, Heavy Civil, and specialty construction operations through training, field support, compliance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Administration & Compliance

  • Maintain safety records, compliance documentation, OSHA logs, training records, incident files, DOT records, and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure employee certifications, licenses, and required training remain current by monitoring expiration dates and coordinating renewals.
  • Maintain electronic safety files and document control systems to ensure accuracy, organization, and accessibility.
  • Assist with maintaining company safety policies, procedures, forms, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support compliance reporting and assist with preparing documentation for internal audits, insurance requests, and regulatory agencies.

 

Training & Employee Support

  • Coordinate new hire safety orientations and onboarding activities.
  • Schedule and track company safety training, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
  • Assist in developing and distributing Toolbox Talks, safety alerts, lessons learned, and other safety communications.
  • Coordinate project-specific safety training and maintain attendance records.
  • Serve as a resource to employees regarding safety training requirements and company safety procedures.

 

Field Support

  • Visit project sites periodically to observe field operations and assist Safety Specialists and Safety Managers with safety initiatives.
  • Assist with routine jobsite inspections and safety audits under the direction of Safety leadership.
  • Help verify corrective actions are completed and documented following inspections or incidents.
  • Assist with maintaining PPE inventories and coordinating distribution to project teams.
  • Support implementation of company safety initiatives across multiple business units.

 

Incident & Reporting Support

  • Assist with gathering documentation following workplace incidents, near misses, property damage events, and vehicle accidents.
  • Track corrective actions and ensure follow-up documentation is completed.
  • Maintain safety metrics, dashboards, and departmental reporting.
  • Prepare recurring reports identifying training completion, compliance status, and safety performance trends.
  • Support accurate recordkeeping for OSHA reporting requirements.

 

Department Operations

  • Coordinate department calendars, meetings, and safety committee activities.
  • Assist with administration of safety technology platforms, vehicle camera programs, and compliance software.
  • Order, track, and maintain inventory of safety equipment, supplies, and PPE.
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (KSA’s, Education, YOE)

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience in construction safety, compliance, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices
  • Understanding of construction operations, jobsite risk, and compliance requirements
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required; reporting and data analysis experience preferred)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting

CERTIFICATIONS

Required

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within six months)

Preferred

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • STSC (Safety Trained Supervisor Construction)
  • OSHA 510 (or willingness to pursue)

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS (environment, noise level, public interactions)

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain
  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to construction sites (up to 10%)
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, wind, and noise during site visits
  • Required to wear PPE when visiting job sites (hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, boots, etc.)
  • Occasional extended or irregular hours may be required to support safety incidents or project needs
