Service Technician - Gates

Position Summary

The Service Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of commercial and residential gate systems, barrier arms, and access control equipment. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to diagnose issues in the field, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain automatic gates, barrier arms, and access control systems

• Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical and electronic components

• Troubleshoot electrical systems including low-voltage wiring, control boards, keypads, card readers, and intercom systems

• Service operators, hinges, rollers, tracks, and related hardware

• Install and program access control systems as needed (keypads, fobs, telephone entry, etc.)

• Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner

• Document work performed, parts used, and recommendations for repairs or replacements

• Communicate effectively with customers regarding system issues and solutions

• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company procedures

• Maintain service vehicle, tools, and inventory

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in gate systems, access control, or related field (doors, low voltage, electrical, or mechanical service)

• Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems

• Knowledge of low-voltage systems and basic electrical principles

• Ability to read schematics and technical manuals

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commercial gate operators and barrier systems

• Familiarity with major access control brands and systems

• Welding or fabrication experience (a plus)

• OSHA or safety certifications

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

• Frequent bending, climbing, and standing

• Comfortable using hand and power tools
