Job Description:

The Simulationist Driver is responsible for the safe operation, transport, and basic maintenance of the mobile simulation lab used for training and recruitment events. This position involves driving the vehicle to scheduled locations, assisting with setup and breakdown of the unit, and ensuring the unit and tow vehicles are clean, operational, and ready for use.

When not actively driving or transporting the mobile simulation unit, the Simulationist Driver will support simulation operations at the Grace Center and other ASU locations, assisting with setup, facilitation, breakdown, and general simulation activities as needed.

The Simulationist Driver will also work closely with Grace Center staff and Edson leadership to support experiential learning by facilitating scheduled educational, clinical, or promotional events. This role requires a strong focus on safety, reliability, and professionalism, with the ability to travel and represent the organization in a positive manner within the community.

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000, DOE

Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

Driver Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently operate the Edson College Mobile Simulation Lab/recreational vehicle (RV) to support Edson activities state-wide (metropolitan and rural settings).

  • Performs routine service and maintenance of university vehicle(s), in accordance with established ASU Fleet Services standards.

  • Performs pre-trip inspection of vehicle to ensure compliance with established state regulations; reports mechanical or safety device failures.

  • Maintains accurate vehicle logs of all trips in accordance with established requirements; reports all accidents and completes all associated incident reports as required.

  • Locates and picks up vehicle replacement parts as needed; fuels vehicle(s). Maintains the cleanliness of the station/garage area.

Simulationist/Sim Technology Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Physical setup and takedown of a variety of healthcare simulations and clinical lab environments with extreme attention to detail as assigned.

  • Assists with tours of the laboratory and simulation spaces for a variety of groups and organizations.

  • Supports staff and faculty during the planning and execution of simulation events, preparing applications, prop placement, and moulage setup to create a realistic healthcare setting.

  • Regularly uses immersive simulation technology, including, but not limited to: patient simulators, electronic health records, extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies.

  • Perform routine maintenance, audits, and troubleshooting for patient simulators, XR devices, AV systems, and associated multimedia peripherals.

  • Restock the RV and simulation labs as needed.

  • Control patient simulators during training sessions, providing technical assistance to facilitators and learners.

  • Participate in simulation/experiential learning events as a facilitator as directed (prebrief, simulator operations, debrief, orientation, etc).

  • Maintains records of supplies and departmental equipment inventory, and maintains department assets.

  • Uses the department-specific software, databases, and websites as directed.

  • In consultation with Grace Center/Edson Operations, develops scheduling plans for repair and maintenance that accommodate the changing needs of the department.

  • Assist the Grace Center in all ASU locations when not traveling.

Other Duties:

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

  • Use critical thinking to make decisions.

  • Work both independently and within a complex structured team.

  • Able to exercise judgment within generally defined practices & policies to determine appropriate action.

  • Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.

  • Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic emergency management methods, including CPR.

  • Experience in driving buses, trams, or passenger van or have a certification.

  • Experience in healthcare simulation.

  • Experience in a medical or healthcare-related field.

  • Experience in using technology.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in simulation through holding certification as Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS), or able to obtain it within 2 years of hire.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to perform essential duties.

  • Communicate clearly in written and spoken formats appropriate to the role.

  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.

  • Work both independently and within a complex structured team.

Working Environment:

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling 25 - 50 pounds.

  • Ability to lift and transport 75 pounds.

  • Use office equipment.

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk short to moderate distances to perform work.

  • Daily exposure to external environmental conditions, loud noise, extreme heat/cold, responding to varying road conditions and traffic hazards.

  • Exposure to chemical fumes and liquids: gasoline.

  • May required to work (weekends, evenings, nights, on-call as regular part of the job).

  • May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.

  • May be required to travel (for events, between campuses).

  • In-person position only.
