Position Summary

The TRIO Talent Search Advisor is responsible in delivering program and services to participants enrolled in the TRIO Talent Search Program.


Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $17.79 - $20.67 per hour


Job Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education, or related field that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform assigned duties. (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • At least one year experience working with youth, and the ability to deliver presentations in front of groups.
  • At least one year of experience in working with low income first generation and/or minority youth
  • At least one year of experience providing assistance advising or counseling students toward entering an institution of postsecondary education or reentering an educational program.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain an (IVP) “Identity Verified Print” Fingerprint Clearance Card and be in good standing with the AZ Department of Public Safety.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have reliable transportation.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of collegiate academic and financial aid procedures.
  • Preference given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming the disadvantages and circumstances like those of the Talent Search participants
  • Public Speaking experience, ability to deliver presentation to groups
  • knowledge of educational and career planning
  • Knowledge of resources available in the community
  • Knowledge of college admissions requirements; public speaking background
  • Ability to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively recruits students to enroll in the TRIO Talent Search program and manages a case load of about

180-220 students.

  • Provide academic advising, career and college orientation, mentoring, and discuss academic needs based off Individual Action Plan completed with student each fiscal year.
  • Responsible for meeting number of students served on a quarterly basis to ensure program goals are being met as required per our grant.
  • Delivers strategies to reach program participant about financial aid, college enrollment process, and college and career readiness though campus visits and workshops. Provides college and career readiness presentations to participants of the program.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date student files and documentation of services provided to participant on a consistent basis to meet grant requirements.
  • Established partnerships and maintains relationship with target schools and community partners. Supports target school collaboration efforts to ensure access to students and ability to participate in school and community events.
  • Plans and delivers virtual workshops to program participants on (i.e.) college and career readiness information, financial literacy, etc. Partner and collaborate with community organizations to provide presentations on educational related topics.
  • Assists in the planning of summer camp, campus tours and any program related events.
  • Responsible for implementing related activities and programming during college campus tours and summer camp. Transport and supervise students during travel.
  • Responsible for maintaining student files and forms up to date and provide necessary information needed for the completion and submittal of reports required by the Department of Education and Friendly House including the Annual Performance Report.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate student data entry records.
  • Responsible for notifying student and parent of acceptance into the program and providing student with initial follow up.
  • Responsible for notifying student of program completion upon high school graduation and following up with post-secondary plans required for the Annual Performance Report.
  • Complies with TRIO mandatory training and additional professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program supervisor.
