The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full-time Shelter Veterinary Technician to work at our Sunnyslope Campus. A Day in the Life:

The Shelter Veterinary Technician will assist the veterinarians in the treatment of animals and independently evaluate animals to determine adoptability. They will assist the veterinarians in all aspects of AHS clinics, including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy, and the administration of prescribed medications.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Preferably completion of a veterinary assisting or technician program OR experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic (2+ years required). CVT not required. Education may substitute for experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology.
  • Knowledgeable in anesthesiology.
  • Know veterinary medical concepts, including, but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks. Be able to communicate such information to clients.
  • Safe and humane animal handling skills are required.
  • Work well both independently and cooperatively as part of team.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hear above the sound of the animals.

There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
