JOB SUMMARY

A Research Intern in Translational Science bridges basic research with clinical practice by assisting with projects such as biomarker discovery, helping craft and execute clinical protocols with clinical team members, evaluating drug targets and their drug ability, and applying computational and statistical methods on biological and clinical data to develop new treatments and diagnostics. The intern will support a Principal Investigator or Senior Researcher at the HonorHealth Research Institute Center for Translational Science by assisting with laboratory experiments, analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, preparing study documentation, and assisting in manuscript preparation. The Research Intern will ultimately develop skills and insights to help them move to a clinical research position when appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lab Work: Processing biological samples such as blood and tissue, performing molecular techniques like IHC, PCR, Western blots, and cell culture, and developing new assays.
  • Data Analysis: Help analyze bioinformatics data, develop predictive models, and perform quality control on datasets using statistical software.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed lab or project logs; prepare summaries, presentations, or progress reports.
  • Study Support: Assisting with protocol design, drafting documents, and managing study data for preclinical or clinical studies.
  • Literature Reviews: Search, read, and summarize existing research or scholarly articles.
  • Collaboration: Work with interdisciplinary teams, attend meetings, brainstorm, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelors Enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in biology, psychology, population science, biochemistry, bioinformatics, computational or computer science, genetics, mathematics, or a related discipline. Required

EXPERIENCE
  • A strong scientific interest with a foundational understanding of biology and familiarity with research methodologies and data analysis basics. Required
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology and biochemical techniques or knowledge in at least one programming/scripting language (R, Python), statistics, and scientific writing. Preferred
