Job Description:

TheĀ Pharmacy TechnicianĀ is responsible forĀ supportingĀ pharmacological services for theĀ In-Office DispensaryĀ (IOD)Ā by stocking, assembling,Ā and distributing medications.Ā Provides support for the office independentlyĀ and with minimal supervision.Ā Performs other diverse duties as requested or required under the general and direct supervision of the manager.Ā

PrimaryĀ Duties &Ā Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Manage payor prior authorizations.Ā 

  • Work with both the patient and foundation funding team to ensure access to medications as needed.Ā 

  • To create a positive and professional first impression for the practice and to show the patients a ā€œwe careā€ attitude.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Process prescriptions electronically and ensure prescription information is accurate and complete.Ā 

  • Collect patient insurance and demographic information, including allergies and comorbidities.Ā 

  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.Ā Ā 

  • Respond to patients and healthcare providers requests, answering their questions and referring various inquiries to the applicable staff in a timely and sensitive manner.Ā 

  • Retrieves, pours, counts, labels,Ā and reconstitutes prescriptionĀ medications.Ā Ā 

  • Transfer medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes using aseptic techniques.Ā Ā Pack all medications for delivery to the appropriate location.Ā Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.Ā Ā 

  • Order, label, and count stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, and enter inventory data into computer.Ā Ā 

  • CleanĀ and help maintainĀ equipment and workĀ areas andĀ sterilize glassware according to prescribed methods.Ā Ā 

  • Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.Ā Ā 

  • Complete reports and send them to applicable team members as required.Ā 

  • Ensure all medication recalls are completed according to rules and regulations.Ā 

  • Check all inventory for the appropriate expiration date andĀ returnĀ when applicable.Ā Ā 

Ā 

  • Maintains logs forĀ registering, return to stock, credits, HIPAA, no safety caps waivers, vouchers/grants, inventory,Ā and special assignments.Ā 

  • Receive payments for prescriptions dispensed and log payments accurately into system.Ā

Qualifications:Ā 

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.Ā 

  • Minimum of three (3) years Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.Ā 

  • All states except Arizona: Applicants must complete a pharmacy technician training program thatĀ the State Board of Pharmacy approvesĀ in the state youĀ are inĀ or accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).Ā 

  • Arizona Only: Register with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician trainee and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) orĀ become nationally certified through the PTCB and register with the State Board as a pharmacy technician.Ā

  • Proficient knowledge of Medical Terminology.Ā 

  • Excellent customer service skills.Ā 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ā 

  • Proficient math skills.Ā 

  • Proficient computer software and database skills.Ā 

  • Strong attention to detail.Ā 

  • Ability to multi-task and work in aĀ fast-pacedĀ environment.Ā 

  • Knowledgeable in state and federal pharmacy law.Ā

  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Ā
