The Direct Care Worker provides needed support, supervision, coaching, mentoring, and training to adults with intellectual and developmentally disabled individuals in their day program and while in the community.


  • Maintains daily IDD service notes and or other documentation required by MS Department of Mental Health. Performs all required work as assigned for working with program participates. Ensures daily outcomes are met and follows the Plan of Services and Supports for each person assigned to each staff and other records as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Coach client’s manners and etiquette with special attention given to mealtimes, proper respect for others, and how to conduct oneself in a community setting
  • Transports clients to and from the center or on field trips using company vehicles
  • Track daily attendance, log client progress toward personal goals, and report behavioral or medical incidents.
  • Leads structured daily programs, including arts, crafts, life skills training, fitness, and educational workshops.
  • Prepares a lunch for all program attendees and offers a snack throughout the day
  • Assists clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as mobility assistance, personal hygiene, toileting, and feeding.
  • Ability to give simple clear instructions, patience with the slow changes, the ability to communicate in a mode effective with the clients’ learning needs and style.
  • Accompany program participants on community outings, field trips, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Reports all undesirable behavior, such as stealing, inappropriate sexual conduct, intimidation, disobedience and/or disrespect to the Supervisor and/or Executive Director.
  • Mentor’s clients in developing relationships with other day program attendees and other community members and resources.
  • Follows training guidelines of regulatory agencies.
  • Documents all work performed to include date, location, attendees, and subject content.
  • Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels.
  • Participate in agency committee and staff meetings as requested.
  • Follow all assigned schedules or tasks presented by the Day Program Coordinator or Supervisor.
  • Ensure clients’ rights are protected.
  • Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures.
  • Implements Saint Francis Ministries policies and follows directives as required. Follows and adheres to all pertinent Saint Francis Ministries Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), rules, personnel policies, and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state and local rules, statutes, regulations, and contractual terms.
  • Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels.
  • Ensures clients’ rights are protected.
  • Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma (and/or GED),
  • First Aid/CPR.,
  • Mandt Training

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prefer two years’ experience in related work areas.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must pass a drug screen, MVR, MS State background checks and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry clearance check; pass a physical examination and TB Skin Test
  • Lifting Requirements of 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
