Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: AMA Headquarters - PICKERINGTON, OH 43147Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeTravel Percentage: Up to 50% Job Shift: DayThe American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), the largest and most influential motorcycling organization in the United States, is seeking a candidate for the positions of Central States Representative to help further our mission of protecting the future of motorcycling and promoting the motorcycle lifestyle.  The position will be responsible for monitoring state regulatory and legislative issues that affect motorcycling, developing and maintaining relationships with agency and government officials, as well as communicating with and educating AMA members and affiliated organizations about current issues and opportunities for action in the eastern region. These responsibilities will require representing the AMA at meetings, hearings, events and in media, including managing projects and occasionally member volunteers.  The Central States Representative will work as part of a larger team of government relations professionals, including those active at the federal, regional, state and grassroots levels. The successful candidate will excel at communication and teamwork. A demonstrated history of using collaborative solutions to resolve complex problems involving internal and external relationships will be a plus. The ideal candidate will have experience and interest in both on- and off-road issues as well as knowledge of the key issues in their respective states.  The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy or a related field, and must have a minimum of three years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, advocacy, public policy or a similar role. Excellent communication, negotiation, research and analytical skills, as well as an ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, are important. A willingness to travel frequently within the United States and a passion for motorcycling and a commitment to AMA’s mission and vision are a must.  Duties Include Monitoring and evaluating state legislative and regulatory initiatives.  Developing and maintaining working relationships with elected officials, staff and agency personnel.  Writing and providing testimony for legislative hearings and regulatory proceedings.  Providing content for call-to-action notices, press releases and AMA editorial channels regarding motorcyclists’ rights and related issues.  Researching, compiling and analyzing data for implementation of the AMA’s government relations objectives.  Responding to letters and general correspondence.  Working closely with the Communications Department to utilize social media and other digital tools to effect positive change for motorcyclists’ rights and freedoms.  Assisting AMA members and other members of the motorcycling public in conducting productive government relations activities in line with the AMA mission and positions.  Represent AMA at state and regional conferences and events as needed.
