Ophthalmic Technician

Full Time – 80 hours/pay

8:00AM – 5:00PM M-F

Scheurer Health, is seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Technician. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various tests and procedures to evaluate the patient’s vision and eye health
  • Measure visual acuity and test eye muscle function
  • Administer eye drops to dilate pupils
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment
  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist with pre- and post-operative care instructions
  • Schedule surgeries and coordinate with surgical teams to ensure timely procedures
  • Obtain prior authorizations and manage referrals for surgical and specialty care
  • Communicate with patients regarding appointment details, insurance approvals, and follow-up instructions
  • Provide patient education on eye care, medications, and treatment options
  • Assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating eye diseases and disorders
  • Document patient information and test results accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program
  • Certification as an ophthalmic technician (COT) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Experience with ophthalmic equipment and procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
