The University of Pikeville Tanner College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) invites applications for a part-time, grant-funded Project Director to support a pediatric dental public health initiative focused on improving access to care in Central Appalachia through community-based data collection and teledentistry engagement. This position is funded through 2026. 


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct community-based data collection activities, including facilitating focus groups and administering surveys to individuals within designated population groups.
  • Engage parents, caregivers, and community members in a culturally responsive and respectful manner.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Tanner College of Dental Medicine and community partners, including schools, churches, and community organizations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of project activities and provide routine updates to supervising faculty.
  • Support implementation of project activities in alignment with grant objectives and timelines.
  • Complete other activities as directed to support the grant objectives.


Education

  • A high school diploma or GED is required for the position. 


Licensure/Certification

  • Certification as a Community Health Worker (CHW) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.


Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working as a dental assistant.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage patients and families in community or clinical settings.
  • Familiarity with Central Appalachia and Eastern Kentucky, including local communities and barriers to care.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel locally within the region as needed.
  • Experience with community outreach, patient navigation, or public health initiatives.
  • Position may involve a combination of on-campus, community-based, and remote work.
