The Music Intern supports the music ministry at Pikeville United Methodist through vocal or instrumental leadership while gaining practical experience, developing musical skills, and growing in servant leadership.
Responsibilities and Career Competencies
Vocal
- Attend weekly choir rehearsal and sing during Sunday services. TW, P, CSD, L
- Learn and practice assigned music independently. P, CSD, CT
- Follow the Director of Music Ministries and collaborate with the music team. C, TW, P
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and preparedness. C, P, CSD
- Assist with music materials, sectional rehearsals, seasonal services, and special events. C, TW, CSD, CTR, L, T
Instrumental
- Attend weekly choir rehearsal and perform during Sunday services. TW, P, CSD, L
- Learn and practice assigned repertoire independently. P, CSD, CT
- Collaborate with the Director of Music Ministries and other musicians. C, TW, P
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and preparedness. C, P, CSD
- Assist with music materials, equipment, rehearsal spaces, seasonal services, and special events. C, TW, P, CSD, CT, L, T

General Expectations
- Commit approximately 5 hours per week (80 hours per semester) for rehearsals, Sunday services, practice, and preparation.
- Be punctual, prepared, and communicate scheduling conflicts promptly.
- Maintain a positive, respectful attitude and demonstrate servant leadership.
Internship Benefits

Qualifications
- Must be enrolled full-time at UPIKE.
- Preferred: Music performance major/minor, music education major (not student teaching), or strong interest in gaining music experience.
- Vocal: Performance experience and music-reading ability preferred; must be dependable and collaborative.
- Instrumental: Proficiency on a worship-appropriate instrument and ability to read music; must be dependable and collaborative.

Additional Comments: Students must work a minimum of 80 hours in the semester. Student must enroll concurrently into CVL 401: Integrated Internship Experience and successfully complete this course.
