JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Spatial Ecology and Environmental Data Sciences (SEEDS) is seeking two summer field technologists to assist with data collection on the Continuous Forest Inventory (CFI) plots established by PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The project is funded by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and PA DCNR. Technologists will find CFI plots using GPS, measure the tree size using DBH tapes, and record the number of crops (e.g., pinecones, acorns, and seeds) on selected trees using binoculars. Technologists will also identify the density and ingrowth of seedlings. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in conducting forest inventory and quantifying the regeneration potential of PA forests.

At least two years toward an undergraduate degree in forestry or a related field is required. Some experience with plant identification and ability to hike off-trail for up to two miles while carrying equipment are required. Ability to work independently in challenging field conditions is highly desired. If you have questions about the job, please contact Dr. Marc McDill (mmcdill@psu.edu)

To Apply, please apply online via WorkDay and include your resume, transcript, and one reference contact that can provide comment on your tree species identification skills.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
