JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

StudentĀ Orientation & Transition Program (SOTP) is seeking aĀ team of undergraduate studentsĀ from all class levelsĀ at University Park to serve asĀ Orientation LeadersĀ (OLs).Ā Orientation LeadersĀ willĀ play a key role in providing a quality transitional experience for all incomingĀ first-yearĀ students atĀ University Park.Ā We are looking for student leaders who are go-getters,Ā authentic,Ā conscientious,Ā enthusiastic, reflective, open toĀ newĀ challenges, and passionate aboutĀ servingĀ Penn StateĀ and the broader communityĀ to help us do this important work.Ā

As an Orientation Leader, students can expect to gain skills in public speaking, classroom andĀ eventĀ management, customer service, collaboration, and leadership. ResponsibilitiesĀ will include:Ā 

  • ServingĀ as aĀ positiveĀ representative of the Pennsylvania State UniversityĀ 

  • Acting as a guide and mentor for new studentsĀ throughĀ variousĀ NSOĀ activities andĀ sessionsĀ 

  • IntroducingĀ Penn StateĀ and its resourcesĀ through smallĀ group presentationsĀ to students andĀ panelsĀ toĀ their familiesĀ 

  • LeadingĀ conversations about the transition from high school to collegeĀ andĀ life as aĀ Penn StaterĀ 

  • Welcoming and checking in newĀ studentsĀ and their familiesĀ toĀ their orientation programĀ 

  • StaffingĀ Summer and Fall WelcomeĀ eventsĀ 

  • AttendingĀ President’s New Student ConvocationĀ 

  • ProvidingĀ additionalĀ logistical and programmatic support for transition programs as neededĀ

Qualifications:Ā 

Interested applicants must be current full-time Penn StateĀ University ParkĀ undergraduate studentsĀ whoĀ planĀ to be enrolled in fall 2026, will earn at least 24 cumulative Penn State credits by the end of the springĀ 2026Ā semester, and haveĀ maintainedĀ a minimum 2.5Ā cumulativeĀ GPA.Ā Successful candidatesĀ mustĀ attendĀ andĀ completeĀ allĀ trainingĀ prior to the start of NSO programming.Ā Satisfactory performance during training isĀ requiredĀ to continue employment, includingĀ embodyingĀ both the Penn State and SOTP values.Ā Ā
