State Board Prep Cosmetology Educator

Position Summary

The State Board Prep Cosmetology Educator is responsible for preparing cosmetology students for successful completion of their Florida State Board licensing examinations while developing their technical knowledge, professional skills, confidence, and readiness for employment in the beauty industry.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach and review cosmetology theory and technical concepts using curriculum and state-board preparation materials.
  • Prepare students for the Florida cosmetology licensing examination through structured lessons, exam reviews, practice questions, and mock examinations.
  • Reinforce essential subjects including infection control, safety and sanitation, anatomy and physiology, hair care, haircutting, hairstyling, haircoloring, chemical services, skin care, nail services, and related cosmetology theory.
  • Explain Florida licensing requirements, professional standards, and examination expectations.
  • Evaluate student progress and identify areas requiring additional instruction or remediation.
  • Coach students in effective test-taking strategies, time management, terminology, and application of theoretical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce proper professional behaviors, communication, guest service, and workplace standards.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and professional learning environment.
  • Document student progress and communicate performance concerns or opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other educators and campus staff to support student retention, graduation, licensure, and career readiness.
  • Participate in educator training, meetings, student events, and professional-development activities.

Qualifications

  • Current Florida cosmetology license.
  • Professional cosmetology experience, preferably with experience working behind the chair.
  • Strong knowledge of Milady/Pivot Point cosmetology curriculum and Florida State Board examination requirements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and classroom-management skills.
  • Ability to motivate students with different learning styles and levels of experience.
  • Passion for cosmetology education and helping students achieve licensure and career success.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, when required.

Minimum Requirements:


2+ years behind the chair.

Cosmetology License and in Florida.
