Job Summary:

The Night Manager serves as the Hotel Manager on Duty and oversees all hotel operations during the overnight shift. This position ensures the highest levels of hospitality, guest service, safety, and operational consistency while representing hotel management in resolving guest and hotel-related situations. The Night Manager leads and supports overnight associates, responds personally to service concerns, coordinates emergency and maintenance needs, monitors financial and operational controls, and ensures the hotel is prepared for the following business day.

  • Delivering Exceptional Guest Service - Ensures every guest feels welcomed and receives attentive, personalized service. Anticipates guest needs, responds promptly to requests, and takes ownership of resolving service concerns.
  • Serving as Manager on Duty - Represents hotel management during the overnight shift and responds to guest, associate, safety, security, maintenance, and operational situations requiring management attention.
  • Leading Overnight Operations - Manages day-to-day overnight hotel operations while maintaining established quality, service, safety, and brand standards.
  • Supervising and Supporting Associates - Provides guidance, direction, and operational support to overnight associates. Ensures associates are properly uniformed, professionally groomed, scheduled appropriately, and provided with required breaks.
  • Demonstrating Leadership - Uses effective interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others. Demonstrates honesty, integrity, sound judgment, and accountability while leading by example.
  • Developing and Building Teams - Builds mutual trust, respect, cooperation, and teamwork among associates while supporting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Coaching and Developing Others - Identifies development needs and provides coaching, mentoring, feedback, orientation, and job-specific training to strengthen associate knowledge and performance.
  • Managing Guest Recovery - Handles complaints, settles disputes, resolves conflicts, and negotiates appropriate solutions while protecting guest satisfaction and the interests of the hotel.
  • Preparing for Guest Arrivals - Confirms arrival preparations are complete, verifies front desk readiness, and ensures express check-in procedures are used appropriately.
  • Supporting Front Desk Operations - Provides desk coverage as needed, confirms adequate change is available in cash drawers, and ensures proper cash-handling procedures are followed.
  • Monitoring Financial Controls - Reviews rate variance reports, monitors cash overages and shortages, manages associate labor hours, and assists with weekly payroll processing.
  • Reviewing Business Performance - Reviews financial statements, sales reports, activity reports, and other performance information to evaluate productivity, measure goal achievement, and identify opportunities for cost reduction or operational improvement.
  • Ensuring Safety and Emergency Preparedness - Promotes hotel safety programs, confirms associates understand emergency procedures, and ensures associates perform their duties in a safe working environment.
  • Managing Overnight Maintenance Needs - Responds to maintenance concerns occurring during the overnight shift and coordinates timely corrective action.
  • Maintaining Operational Compliance - Monitors compliance with Guidelines to Operations, hotel procedures, service standards, cash controls, and other established policies.
  • Communicating Operational Information - Maintains consistent communication among associates, supervisors, managers, and the night auditor. Communicates new procedures, standards, programs, and important shift information clearly and promptly.
  • Supporting Associate Performance - Monitors attendance, documents absences and tardiness, recognizes strong performance, and assists supervisors with performance reviews, counseling, and recommendations.
  • Promoting Recognition and Engagement - Participates in associate recognition programs and publicly recognizes outstanding quality, performance, teamwork, and service.
  • Organizing and Prioritizing Work - Develops goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and complete overnight responsibilities efficiently.
  • Supporting Hotel Services - Assists with delivering goods and services to guests and provides hands-on operational assistance whenever needed.
  • Completing Shift Handover - Briefs the night auditor and incoming leadership on vital guest, associate, financial, safety, maintenance, and operational information to ensure continuity of service.
