The Chan research group at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher with expertise in protein bioconjugation and polymer processing.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies to tune the physical and chemical properties of proteins through chemical modification
  • Develop methods to compatibilized proteins with biopolymers for composites
  • Characterize mechanical, thermal, and structural properties of materials
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary collaborators, including synthetic and computational biologists
  • Mentor and collaborate with graduate students on research projects
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, research proposals, and progress reports

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related field with a focus on polymers
  • Experience in polymer synthesis
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
