A successful first grade assistant teacher engages students in meaningful learning experiences that meets their needs and gives them the confidence to take risks. Shady Side’s teachers foster academic development and support students’ social-emotional growth. This applicant will work collaboratively within a team of child-focused educators and has a deep commitment to this important time in a student’s educational journey.    Primary Responsibilities Collaborating with the classroom teacher to support the learning of the first-grade students. This may include working with students in a whole group, small group, or one on one format. Working as a part of a Country Day team to support the student experience. This may include assuming duties such as recess, lunch, attending Outdoor Adventures,  and carpool/bus duties. Assist in reporting student progress by supporting the teacher in writing report cards, conducting parent conferences, and managing the use of technological platforms, such as SeeSaw. Attending all faculty meetings and in-service days. Completing other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Head of Schools and/or Assistant Heads of Country Day. Being an integral part of a caring community of learners. Qualifications  Qualifications A depth of knowledge and understanding of young children A passion for working with young children Sensitivity to diverse communities of learners and an appreciation of developmental differences in an early childhood setting Ideal candidate will have: A bachelor’s degree in elementary or early childhood education is required. Ideal candidates have some experience working with elementary school students, a flexible and team-oriented approach, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, superior interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, positive demeanor and a knowledge of 21st Century Skills.
