ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to support our Night Program in the 6 Pavilion Med/Surg Oncology Unit at the McCandless location.聽Employees in the Night Program are allotted an additional $2 per hour, on top of the聽current off-shift differential.

The Patient Care Technician is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience. You must have at least 6 months of experience or be a nursing student with at least one clinical to be eligible for the Night Program.

Hours:

Our Full-Time Night PCTs typically work three 12-hour evening and overnight shifts. Hours may vary by unit. Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.

**Hired candidates will be required to attend Full-Time orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at the McCandless campus of Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.

Responsibilities:

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Suggests and supports changes within the department.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (all competencies must be achieved):

o聽聽 ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients

o聽聽 Point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, & vital signs

o聽聽 I&O

o聽聽 Telemetry monitor application/reapplication

o聽聽 HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs)

o聽聽 Clean catch/mini catheter urine collection

o聽聽 Simple dressings

o聽聽 12 lead EKG

o聽聽 Bladder scan

o聽聽 All specimen collections

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Establishes appropriate and effective communication with other departments.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Completes department clerical functions as needed.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must also have

o聽聽 1 Year of Experience OR

o聽聽 enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation OR

o聽聽 completion of a bachelor鈥檚 degree in a health sciences field

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Successful completion of basic information system training.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

聽聽聽聽聽聽 CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Act 34 Criminal Clearance
