The Patient Care Technician, Senior聽is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience.

Responsibilities:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽 Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to:
o聽聽 responding to call lights and telephones
o聽聽 passing meal trays and transporting patients.
聽
路聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must routinely perform the UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities including:
o聽聽 ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients
o聽聽 Point of care testing (inc. blood glucose)
o聽聽 Weights & vital signs
o聽聽 I&O
o聽聽 Telemetry monitor application/reapplication
o聽聽 HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs)
o聽聽 Simple dressings
o聽聽 Placement and removal of restraints
o聽聽 12 lead EKG
o聽聽 Bladder scan
o聽聽 All specimen collections
o聽聽 IV catheter removal and Foley catheter removal
聽
路聽聽聽聽聽聽 Demonstrates the following:
o聽聽 Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team
o聽聽 Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally
o聽聽 Accountability for actions
o聽聽 Enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must also have either
- 聽
- 聽2 years of healthcare experience, OR
- 1 year of experience and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or
- 1 year of experience and completion of a bachelor鈥檚 degree in a health sciences field.
- 聽
- Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire
- Successful completion of patient care technician senior class
- Successful completion of basic information system training.
- Microcomputer experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
- Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required.
- May, in the course of their duties, be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.
Licensure/Certification/Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
