UPMC Shadyside is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to support both our main hospital MRI department and the Hillman Cancer Center. This is an exciting opportunity to expand your leadership skills in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment. We offer a variety of schedule options to fit your lifestyle:

  • Three 13-hour shifts (Daylight/Evening) between 6:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. or 10 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Five 8-hour shifts between 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Weekend and holiday call rotations are required.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform all duties of an Advanced Level II MRI Technologist, ensuring patient safety, MR safety compliance, and high-quality imaging results.
  • Lead orientation and training for new technologists, students, and medical staff, ensuring timely completion of competencies.
  • Coordinate daily workflow, manage staffing needs, and assist with scheduling to maintain efficient department operations.
  • Support quality assurance projects, develop imaging protocols, and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Take on a leadership role in the supervisor’s absence, contributing to hiring efforts and providing input on performance evaluations.


  • Completion of formal training in MRI-related program accredited by the ARRT or ARMRIT or CNMT program or accredited ARDMS program.
  • 3 years MRI experience required.
  • Performance review consistent with minimum of strong/ Solid performance on last performance review required.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • ARRT or ARMRIT MR Certified required.
  • CPR or BLS Required.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ARRT Certificate OR ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
