Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Perform a variety of diagnostic test to the eyes to provide information to the ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment. Assist the ophthalmologist with diagnostic and treatment oriented procedures and administrative tasks.                                                                                                                  

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform patient intake to include ocular history, medical history, medications and allergies. (20%)
  • Perform a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information including, but not limited to, intraocular pressures, basic motility, visual fields, PAM and BAT tests, A-scan USN, fundus photography, pupillary assessment and measurement. (20%)
  • Assist the physician during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures (in office), including instrumentation, sterile preparations and documentation. (20%)
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medications or diagnostic drops as required by the provider for testing or treatment. (10%)
  • Assist the ophthalmologist with patient education pertaining to prescribed treatment. (10%)
  • Coordinate scheduling of patient appointments and surgeries. (20%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • 1-3 years of full time work experience under supervision of ophthalmologic supervision

Preferred

  • JRCOMP approved program for ophthalmology assistants

Additional Employment Requirements:

  • ​CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
