Patient Care Technician (PCT) – Same Day Surgery
Location: Mercy Hospital & Mercy Pavilion
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8- or 10-hour shifts
Start Times: 4:30 AM, 5:00 AM, 5:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM
Availability: Must be available for all listed start times

️ Responsibilities
- Take vitals and weights
- Prep, escort, and transport patients pre- and post-op
- Insert/remove IVs and perform phlebotomy
- Assist with ADLs, mobility, and patient care
- Turn over rooms, stock supplies, and assist nursing staff
âś… Requirements
- IV insertion and phlebotomy experience
- Flexibility with early morning start times
- Strong teamwork and patient-care skills
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must meet one of the following:
- A. Two (2) years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements for the Patient Care Technician – Senior title, or
- B. One (1) year of general healthcare experience and current enrollment in a PT, OT, or PA program, with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or
- C. One (1) year of general healthcare experience and completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
Training & Professional Requirements
- Annual completion of a professional contribution (to be determined after hire).
- Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician Specialist class.
- Successful completion of eRecord training.
- May require successful completion of the appropriate UPMC cardiac rhythm course, as determined by organizational guidelines and unit-based clinical operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification.
- Current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of hire, based on American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration components.
- ACLS preferred.
- Act 34 clearance required.
