The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ranks among the best in the country. Our research programs are at the forefront of the technologies that have changed the world we live in. Our interdisciplinary approach to education and research allows faculty and student across the university and beyond to collaborate on problems that have a significant impact on the world around us. The ECE Department, part of the College of Engineering, is a large and diverse academic community, and includes global research and teaching efforts through extensions of our Pittsburgh academic programs and research in Silicon Valley, Portugal, Africa, and Thailand.

The Personal Care Assistant shall assist with mobility during the workday for a department head. The tasks include, but are not limited to, providing hands-on mobility support, setting up and adjusting mobility equipment for safe use, retrieving and carrying items, assisting with personal needs during the workday, and escorting the department head to locations across campus. The Personal Care Assistant may also carry materials to meetings and provide physical support during work-related travel. Performs related personal assistance duties as assigned.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on assistance with mobility
  • Set up and adjust mobility equipment for safe use
  • Assist with obtaining meals and hydration
  • Operates standard office equipment and displays computer literacy
  • Maintains a high level of integrity and discretion
  • Flexible and adaptable to principal’s changing needs day to day
  • Displays good communication and customer service skills, delivering a high standard of support and assistance to guests, faculty, staff, and students
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years’ experience
  • Experience providing personal care or mobility assistance (professionally or as a caregiver)
  • Physically able to assist and provide physical support safely
  • Reliable and punctual, with dependable transportation
  • Basic understanding of body mechanics and safe lifting/transfer techniques
  • Training from an occupational or physical therapist preferred
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful background check
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license
  • Position Specific Licenses/Certifications:
    • Home Health Aide (HHA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
