Description of Ohodnicki Laboratory: Magnetic and photonic materials and device research and development for a range of applications. Emphasis is placed upon fiber optic and photonic sensors as well as magnetic and electromagnetic materials for electric power conversion and microwave applications. A combination of materials synthesis, characterization, and development facilities are complemented by expertise and capabilities in electronics, photonics, and multi-physics finite element simulations. An interdisciplinary facility that houses an extensive set of equipment and instrumentation for materials scientists, electrical engineers, computer engineers, chemists, applied physicists, and related engineering and science professionals.

Required Educational Background: Applicant must have a Ph.D. in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely-related field. Postdoctoral experience in materials synthesis and characterization, as well as magnetic materials.

Required Skillset: For the research component of the position, the required skillset includes: Strong background in materials characterization and synthesis, magnetic material development, magnetic property characterization, and technical publications. In addition to conducting research, your duties may also include preparing reports, performing literature reviews, supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and assisting with other projects in the laboratory. Other required skill sets include x-ray diffraction, magnetometry, permeametry, scanning electron microscopy, and high frequency electromagnetic property measurements and; Strong interest in basic and applied research. Good verbal and written communication skills; Ability to work both independently and within a team structure delivering project components on given time schedules; Ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities: The research-related responsibilities of this position will include: Mentoring graduate students; Writing journal publications, preparing reports that summarize the work conducted for progress reports to funding agencies; Planning, developing, and implementing technical and scientific research programs; Contributing to proposal writing and acquisition of preliminary data.
