Program Summary:

SHIM鈥檚 Youth Mentoring Program is designed to offer a safe multicultural space for adolescents, primarily from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, to build a community of peers and trusted adults, discover passions and skills, and grow social emotional and academic knowledge to become resilient and capable young adults. The program is a year-round program that runs continuously throughout the academic year into the summer. It currently operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 8:00 pm and Fridays from 3:30 to 6:00 pm. During the hours of 3:30 to 5:30, 6th through 12th grade students engage in homework help during the school year and hangout time during the summer. Year-round, students participate in enriching group mentoring sessions from 6:00 to 8:00pm.


Job Summary:

The Program Driver is a part-time, full-year position. The Program Driver supports the program by providing safe and reliable transportation to students in grades 6-12. The Driver will conduct multiple routes during their shift to ensure all students get to and from the program safely. The Driver must be able to effectively navigate the South Hills while remaining calm, patient, and safe. The Program Driver is expected to be on site Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:15 pm.

Essential Functions:

路 Safely transport students to and from the program using agency vehicles

路 Coordinate daily driving routes with Youth Mentoring Manager

路 Demonstrate positive interactions and behavior management with all children

路 Build strong trusted relationships with students

路 Work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and students

路 Work with the Family Center Driver to maintain the vehicles on a regular basis having the oil, fluids and tires checked. Ensure the vehicles are fueled, maintained, cleaned, and inspected.

路 Follow safe driving instructions and practices at all times

路 Support program supervision in off hours when not driving

路 Communicate student needs (academic, behavioral, social-emotional, etc.) to Manager

路 Attend staff meetings and professional development trainings, when needed

路 Perform other responsibilities as requested by the Program Coordinator


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

路 Knowledge of safety regulations and practices while driving

路 Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive, calm attitude

路 Demonstrated ability and comfort operating large vehicles

路 Sensitivity and awareness of working with a multi-cultural community

路 Ability to positively guide and direct students

路 Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal communication skills

路 Ability to work as a team member and to be highly flexible聽

路 Ability and willingness to work evening and occasional weekend hours

Education and Experience:

路 Valid PA driver鈥檚 license and clean driving record required

路 Relevant experience or education within youth development, education, social emotional support, and transportation will be considered聽


Physical Requirements:聽

路 Must be able to sit for long periods of time

路 Ability to drive and operate a large vehicle


Supervisory Responsibility:

None


路 Act 33/34, NSOR, and FBI clearances

路 Completed Mandated Reporter Training and agreement to comply as a Mandated Reporter
