Undergraduate Research Assistant (Ribner Lab)

Research assistants will be responsible for collecting data with young children in a one-on-one setting. Data collection is designed to test children’s cognitive development using age-appropriate tools including paper-and-pencil games and assessments as well as tablet- or computer-based tasks. Research assistants are expected to be flexible and keep children engaged to the best of their ability while also completing data collection tasks with a high degree of fidelity to written and trained protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Complete training in data collection and cleaning protocols from supervisor
• Collect data in schools, homes, online, and/or lab settings
• Schedule and coordinate data collection visit
• Clean and code data (e.g., transcribe and code video- and audio-based data for language characteristics of interest; code looking time from video-based data in infant studies; code qualitative constructs from video- and audio-based data)
• Assist with manuscript preparation

Requirements

• Complete a series of background checks (PA State Criminal History, PA State Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprinting)
• Research assistants may be responsible for transporting themselves to data collection visits using either their own vehicles or public transportation
• Should feel comfortable working with children, parents, and school staff

Research assistants will be paid $12/hr

All current student employees should notify their other manager(s) if you work multiple jobs on campus at the same time. Additionally, students may not work more than 20 hours per week (combined between all campus jobs) during the academic year. Students may not exceed 980 work hours per calendar year.

Student jobs do not automatically roll over to the next academic year or summer.
